At last we were able to celebrate the 15th anniversary of our Friendship Pact, postponed from 2021!
Members from WTA were invited to visit Vernon at the end of August 2022 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Friendship Pact (postponed from 2021) and to take part in the Commemoration Ceremony of the Liberation of Vernon in 1944.
On Friday morning we went to the Musée in Vernon to see the "Saga Familiale" Exhibition. In the afternoon we made our way to the Tilly Monument, a memorial to the men of the 1st Worcestershire Regiment who lost their lives in the liberation of the village.
The official ceremony took place in the Place de la République, where a wreath was laid by our Chairwoman at the foot of the Memorial.
After a drinks and refreshments reception in the square we enjoyed a boat trip on a bâteau-atelier to a restaurant at Le Goulet. Here we were warmly welcomed by members of Vernon Twinning Association for dinner.
We had some free time on Saturday morning to visit the town and in the afternoon we visited the Musée des Impressionismes in Giverny. Naturally our visit included Monet's house and garden.
In the evening we travelled to La Ferme des Ruelles in Tilly for an interesting talk by the owner Michel Galmel, followed by tasting of the cider and Calvados and a superb buffet dinner prepared from local produce and of course the farm cider.
On Sunday we had an appointment for a guided tour in English at the Musée du Peigne et de la Parure in Ezy. After lunch we visited the Château at Anet, built in 1552 for Diane de Poitiers.
The weather throughout our stay was warm and sunny and the programme was superb.
